Binghamton—DCMO-BOCES and Broome-Tioga BOCES jointly hosted the highly anticipated "Leave Your Mark Leadership Academy 2023" on July 18-19, 2023. The two-day event, held at the Binghamton DoubleTree Hilton Conference Center, brought together educators, administrators, and leaders from across the region to explore groundbreaking ideas in education and foster a culture of enhanced leadership in area schools.
Day one of the Leadership Academy featured a powerful keynote address by renowned national speaker and educational innovator, Thomas C. Murray. Serving as the Director of Innovation for Future Ready Schools®, a project of All4Ed in Washington, D.C. Murray has made a significant impact on education across the country. Having worked alongside the United States Congress, the White House, the US Department of Education, and state departments of education, Murray's insights have influenced the implementation of student-centered learning and the transformation of schools for the digital age.
Murray's accolades include being named the "2018 National/Global EdTech Leader of the Year" by EdTech Digest, the "2017 Education Thought Leader of the Year," and one of "20 to Watch" by NSBA in 2016. His best-selling book, "Learning Transformed: 8 Keys to Designing Tomorrow’s Schools, Today," co-authored with Eric Sheninger and published by ASCD, has been a driving force in shaping educational practices. Attendees were thrilled to learn from Murray's expertise and gather inspiration from his most recent book, "Personal & Authentic: Designing Learning Experiences that Impact a Lifetime," released in October 2019.
During his keynote, Murray shared his passion for creating cultures of innovation within schools, empowering teachers to design learning experiences that cater to the needs of modern learners. His insights resonated with the audience and laid the foundation for two days of immersive and dynamic activities.
Day two was filled with a gamut of interactive group activities, engaging breakout sessions, and invaluable networking opportunities for regional administrators. Attendees collaborated on innovative strategies, shared best practices, and explored trends in education. The emphasis on creating student-centered and future-ready learning environments motivated participants to return to their schools with renewed determination to drive positive change.
"We are thrilled with the success of the 'Leave Your Mark Leadership Academy 2023'," said Ginger Rinaldo, Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services at DCMO-BOCES.
