Three adults and a student holding trophy

The 22nd Annual Regional Spelling Bee was held on Saturday February 3, 2024. Twenty-six students from the DCMO and the ONC BOCES schools competed at the SUNY Oneonta's Goodrich Theater.

Nyarah Garver, a 7th-grade student in Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School, correctly spelled "disaffected” and was declared the winner of this year’s regional competition.

Thanks to the kind support from The Daily Star, Nyarah will represent our region at the 2024 SCRIPPS National Spelling Bee Competition to be held during the week of May 28th through May 30th in the Washington DC area.

Contributions from businesses and individuals support the Bee Fund and helps the champion and the family cover travel and meal expenses to compete.  "Money should never be the obstacle that prevents a student from our rural schools from competing at the national level.  For this reason, the Bee Fund relies on the kind support of our local organizations to give the bee champion the wings to fly and experience this amazing opportunity," said the Program Coordinator, Martha Ryan.

Enrollment for the 2025 Spelling Bee Program begins in August 2024.  Students from any school in the DCMO and the ONC BOCES region are eligible to participate.  For more information on how to enroll in this program visit the SCRIPPS website at www.spellingbee.com or contact Martha at ryanm@dcmoboces.com.
