At the Utica Insurance Risk Management Seminar today in Binghamton, DCMO BOCES received the 2024 School Safety Excellence Award in recognition of the BOCES outstanding efforts to create a safer school environment and as a direct result of the BOCES's diligence and adherence to safety principles. DCMO has earned this award for more than 20 years now. This year, DCMO earned the highest level of the award - Titanium, with Honors. This award recognizes the commitment to school safety exhibited by all staff, especially the DCMO Health & Safety team.
Receiving the award on behalf of DCMO were Board President Vanessa Warren, Health & Safety Coordinator Jason Lawrence, Mental Health Coordinator Amanda Hoover, and Health & Safety staff Alison Bensley, Trevor Natoli, and Rick Shaw.

Last week, our Early Childhood Education CTE Juniors and Seniors planned and implemented an immersive astronomical experience for our preschool and elementary aged students at the Alan D. Pole DCMO BOCES Campus in Norwich. Students commenced by entering the Starlab, an inflatable planetarium (available through DCMO BOCES Makerspace Loanables) where they saw stars and constellations. Students then moved through small-group manipulative educational experiences, developed by our ECE emerging professionals. Preschoolers learned about constellations, the planets in our solar system, the orbiting of the earth around the sun, and phases of the moon. Elementary age students participated in a space-themed scavenger hunt, learned fun facts about our planets, and created a rocket ship!
Thank you to all those who helped with this exciting experience: Culinary Art instructors and students for making half moon cookies and frosting, Makerspace liaisons at the Support Service Center, and the Operations and Maintenance Department for transporting the Starlab.

are from NY State growers/producers - the pasta, the meat sauce, the apple, the beans, and the milk. Delicious!

The emergency plumbing repairs have been completed at DCMO BOCES Norwich (Pole) Campus. The Norwich Campus will be open for all students and staff tomorrow. Thank you for your patience and flexibility.

Due to emergency plumbing repairs, the DCMO BOCES Norwich Campus is closed for Special Education, TLC, GED, and Pathways students only on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. CTE students should report as scheduled. All staff should report as scheduled. Preschool/Daycare will also be open.

DCMO BOCES held a Staff Development Day on Friday at both campuses, with a day of training and discussion. Group sessions in the morning were led by John Whalen (Harrold Campus) and Doug Overton (Pole Campus), co-founders of Edtomorrow, an educational training and professional development company. After lunch, breakout sessions allowed smaller groups to explore and build on the principles and ideas introduced in the morning. We’ve got some great new ideas and resources to try out!

DCMO BOCES proudly participates in NY Thursdays! NY Thursday meals use seasonal New York State foods that are grown, harvested and/or produced in our state. We’ll be serving up our next tasty NY Thursday meal this Thursday, on both campuses and all the schools DCMO BOCES provides school lunch management for.

Area 10th grade students and their families had an opportunity to visit the DCMO BOCES Robert W. Harrold Campus Thursday. The Career Night event allowed students and their families to tour the Career & Technical Education programs, meet potential instructors and speak with industry professionals about careers in their fields. A separate Career Night event was held last week at the Alan D. Pole Campus in Norwich.

FFA students from DCMO BOCES Harrold Campus recently participated in Maple Day at the New York State Capitol Building in Albany. They joined representatives from the Cornell Maple Research program, the NYS Maple Producers Association, and other maple producers from around the state for a day of advocacy. Students set up a presentation on our maple production here at DCMO BOCES and were able to share with legislators and the public information about maple and how sap collection and syrup production work. Students who attended this event were junior Lindsay Turnbull, seniors Thomas Breslau and Morgan Williams from Gilbertsville-Mount Upton CSD, seniors Connor Derr and Alexes Sousa from Unatego CSD and Senior Addaleen McGlone from Downsville CSD

DCMO BOCES welcomes Luke Ferland, who joined us today as Assistant Principal at the Robert W. Harrold Campus in Sidney Center. We're glad you're here!

February is Career & Technical Education Month, and it’s also the month when 8th and 10th grade students from our component districts visit the DCMO BOCES campuses. On these visits, 8th graders get an overview of all the CTE programs, and 10th grade students get to spend more focused time in two programs of their choosing. What a great way to discover how they can turn their passion into a path forward! We appreciate the careful work that goes into planning and hosting these visits, involving our career counselors, work experience coordinators, CTE instructors, Pole and Harrold Campus administration, staff and students, and school counselors from our 16 component districts. DCMO BOCES CTE programs have a lot to offer, and students had a great time learning about them!
