Under development for more than a year, the new website of DCMO BOCES makes its debut today! The site has been built using a new platform, with improved features and expanded content. The new site will provide immersive news and events feeds, enhanced accessibility and navigation for an improved user experience, as well as a synched, stand-alone mobile app with push notifications. The site also features an expanded ability to provide richer content like photos and video. The redesigned site provides both new and updated information, and also helps ensure that the website is compliant with current rules and regulations. Development of the site was a collaborative effort, with guidance and input from the administration, the board of education, and the DCMO BOCES community. You can find the site at www.dcmoboces.com.

Computer Technology students at DCMO BOCES Alan D. Pole Campus finished installation of a sound and light show this week. The complex project began in October, according to Computer Technology instructor Ann French, with students researching the necessary hardware and software that would be needed to complete the task. Then they met with Career and Technical Education Director Jennifer Waite to share the scope of the project and explain their software and hardware needs. Students from the video game design and software development specializations created sequences that would sync lights to music, while the students in the computer technician specialization focused on the hardware aspect. They collaborated with students in the Welding program, who created the candy canes and large Christmas tree, the Carpentry program, who built the present boxes, and the Conservation and Heavy Equipment Operation program, which built the sleigh and reindeer. Visual Communications students create the signs. After some troubleshooting, the students successfully created DCMO BOCES’ first ever light show! We are so excited to share this project with the community. Come down to the Alan D. Pole Campus and tune into FM 101.5 to enjoy the show!

Harrold Campus hosted a Winter Carnival on Wednesday, and boy was there a lot going on! There were games and activities, an ornament and ugly sweater contest, holiday displays, photo spots, face painting, a popcorn machine, hot chocolate station, and holiday music, capped off by a performance of "Jingle Bells" - in sign language! There were a few celebrities in attendance as well, including The Grinch and the big guy himself, Santa! Thanks to all the students, teachers and staff who worked so hard plan, organize and host this amazing event!

We have been busy here at the Pole Campus with our Annual Holiday Shopping Event! This event provides students an opportunity to pick out items to give as gifts to family members. All items for the Holiday Event are donated by staff at the Pole Campus and Support Service Building. Once selected, items are gift wrapped, tagged and bagged for the students to take home. Gift wrapping has been provided by students from the Cosmetology and Early Childhood programs. A huge shout out to everyone that made this year's event a huge success!

On Friday, Security & Law Enforcement students at Harrold Campus had science with Mr. Wetmore. Their lesson was on the science behind fire extinguishers, how they work, what types for what fires, and why. Following that, they got a hands-on reinforcement of the lesson when they went outside and used the training fire extinguishers on a simulated fire.

The State Police visited the Auto Technology Lab at Pole Campus Wednesday with their roll over simulator, impairment goggles, and State Police K9 Matti. Several different classes were able to attend a demonstration and try the goggles, and Ms. LaFever’s 5th and 6th graders had a special visit with the State Police K9 dog Matti. Thanks to Trooper Grigoli from Troop C in Sidney, and Trooper May and Matti from Binghamton. We look forward to having them visit again in the future to share this very important message of safety. The career connections were amazing for our CTE students! The visit was organized by Career Counselor Megan Scrivner.

School librarians gathered at the DCMO BOCES Support Services Center this week as part of a year-long professional learning course in Media Literacy. They’ll learn how to decode media messages across a range of grade-levels and subject areas, and bring these skills back to their schools to share with their peers and promote media literacy across the curriculum. The Professional Learning is being provided by Christopher Sperry, from Ithaca College and Project Look Sharp.
